The season is fast approaching and the Working Class Hunter crew is hard at work getting treestands hung, shooting lanes trimmed and getting those fall plots in. As always, finding time is a challenge but we are dedicated to our craft. Trail cams are starting to tell us the story, and those of us that have been lucky enough to identify a target buck have started to put together a game plan.
Sometimes, even the best plans don't come together. As of right now, I personally haven't identified a target buck. One of the challenges my property presents is that bucks tend to be other places during the summer. This summer has proven to be even tougher than most, as we have been experiencing a major drought here in NW Missouri. I haven't had a picture of a mature buck in over 6 weeks. My mind wonders, man I hope we haven't been hit with EHD. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they are just hunkered down near food and water, just not travelling as much as usual.
I have faith that come mid-October, those mature bucks that I know made it through the winter will start showing back up. That's when it matters the most. Summer time trail camera pics are great. They give us something to look forward to, but experience has told me they can also be fools gold. Those bachelor groups that may have summered in front of your camera could vanish at any time, leaving you with a plan, but no way to execute it. I've learned to adapt and evolve, I always have a backup plan.
